Lake Egypt 3-6

Lake Egypt had been on fire leading up to the kick off event for the Southern Illinois division of Angler’s Choice. The past two weekends saw weights exceeding 20 lbs to take the top positions. This day was to be different however as the sun shined and the wind blew the bite seemed to dissipate. Even with the lake getting a bit stingy by Egypt standards the weights were still very respectable.

The first place team of Jack and Ben Doan, both of Desoto, IL. bested a strong field of anglers to take the first win of the 2005 season. These two cousins were the 2003 angler’s of the year in the North Region of Angler’s Choice but struggled during the 2004 season. The team caught their fish predominantly on Competitive Edge “Little Big Man” spinner baits but with one fish also being taken on an RC Lures Advantage Jig. The team stated that the fish were located right on the bank and would often hit the lure as soon as it hit the water. The teams winning bag weighed 16.38lbs and earned them $1,835.00 for the day. Great Job Guys!!

Second place goes to the well-known team of Jerry and Brandon Bate both of Zeigler, IL.  The team fished rogues throughout the day and targeted wind blown points with a good concentration of both grass and bait fish. The water depth the fish seemed to be located in was eight to ten feet. The team culled their way through eight keeper fish during the day and just lacked that one solid bite to take the win. The teams bag tipped the scales at 15.83lbs and earned them $1,035.00 on the day.

Third Place goes to the team of Scott Kreger from Dubois, IL. and Mike Frisch of Scheller, IL. The team threw an arsenal of baits at their quarry including spinner baits, jigs, crank baits and brush hawgs. The two larger fish in the bag however came off a white spinner bait. The fish were holding tight in weed beds located in water depths ranging anywhere from three to eight feet.  The teams five fish limit had a total weight of  13.52lbs and earned them checks totaling $762.00 for the day at the lake.

The Lunker Lure Big Bass of the day went to the team of Rick Chidester from Cadiz, KY. and Mike Hockett of Woodlawn, IL. The fish was fooled by a Limit Lures jig fished on the outer edge of a grass line in a water depth of approximately 10 foot. The fish tipped the scales at 6.12lbs and earned the team $540.00 for the bite.
